Naixement: 23 de maig de 1939 a Memphis, Tennessee, els EUA

Stamm va començar a tocar la trompeta als dotze anys. Va assistir a la Universitat Estatal del Nord de Texas, on va formar part de la One O'Clock Lab Band. Va formar part de l'Orquestra de Mellophonium de Stan Kenton de 1961 a 1963, i posteriorment va col·laborar amb Woody Herman de 1965 a 1966. Posteriorment, va formar part de l'Orquestra de Thad Jones/Mel Lewis de 1966 a 1972 i amb Benny Goodman de 1974 a 1975.

En la dècada de 1970, va començar una carrera que va durar dècades com a prolífic músic d'estudi i de sessió. En l'estudi, ha gravat amb Paul McCartney, Average White Band, Bill Evans, Quincy Jones, Donald Fagen, Oliver Nelson, Duke Pearson, Wes Montgomery, Freddie Hubbard, Stanley Turrentine, Grover Washington, Jr., Patrick Williams, Michel Legrand, Lena Horne, Frank Foster, Paul Desmond, Frankie Valli, Deodato, Els DeMerle i George Benson. Va tocar el solo de fliscorno en «Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey» de Paul McCartney.

En la dècada de 1980, va tocar amb l'Orquestra Americana de Jazz de John Lewis, la Bob Mintzer Band, la George Gruntz Concert Jazz Band (1987), la Big band de Louie Bellson i la banda de la compositora Maria Schneider. És membre de l'Orquestra de Jazz de Westchester des de 2002.
