Naixement: 28 maig 1944, Atlanta, Geòrgia

Va formar el grup Gladys Knight & The Pips al costat del seu germà Merald Knight i dos dels seus cosins. Van fer el seu primer top10 en 1961.

Van signar amb les companyies Fury i Maxx, i van llançar dos senzills.

Van fitxar per Motown en 1966 i els va arribar el seu gran èxit.

El 1973, va llançar el seu major èxit en Motown, "Neither One of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye)", i poc després van abandonar la discogràfica per signar amb Buddah.

En aquest nou segell es van consolidar llançant tres dels seus més famosos èxits: "Midnight Train to Geòrgia", "I Ha Got to Utilitza My Imagination" i "Best Thing That Ever Happened to Em".

Després d'aquesta època, es va anar separant cada vegada més de el grup i movent-se cap a altres gèneres.

A mitjans dels anys noranta va aconseguir major notorietat amb un duet amb Frank Sinatra.

El 2005 va editar "One voice", disc de gospel en el qual col·labora The Saints Unified Voices.

Un any després, l'octubre de 2006, torna amb un àlbum en el qual rendeix honors al jazz més clàssic amb temes de Duke Ellington i Gershwin entre d'altres, titulat "Before me".
